Douglas Boudra

Douglas Boudra
1950-1989

In a recent email exchange regarding the spelling of Gary Yaerger's family name, I was reminded that the best "speller" in the old Washington Elementary School was Doug Boudra. Funny the things you remember, but I don't recall ever winning a spelling bee against him!

Many of you may know of Doug's accomplishments in his professional life, and I guess it was at our 20th Class Reunion that he mentioned the "publish or perish" mentality of Academia. Well, below are but a few of the papers that Doug published on Meteorology and Oceanography. After learning of his passing, I found that he had a plethora of publications, many of them regarding the zone near Africa where Hurricanes are born. I believe the long-term implication of the research was to learn whether anything could be done to lessen their ferocity.

So, the list below is but a small testimony to the contributions of people within our class, many of whom had lives shorter than we'd have had them be. And, as we recall our friendships with them in our growing up, we regret that they are no longer with us.
